Ringmer Cricket Club

Season starts with a win for the 1st XI

All 3 Saturday teams and the Sunday XI were in action over the weekend, where the excellent weather helped set the scene for the start to the league season.

Ringmer 1st XI 221 for 4 defeated Rottingdean 1st XI 156 all out
Rottingdean won the toss at Ringmer and asked the home side to bat. Runs were difficult to get with a tight bowling spell particularly from Osbourne 14 overs 1 for 25 . Ringmers batsman were cautious at first but as the afternoon wore on Rottingdeans bowling attack laboured in the heat . A fine innings by Michael Turner 84 not out and a powerful knock of 59 from Murray Barnett saw the home team through to 221 of 4 at tea after the full 50 overs .
Rottingdeans reply started slowly with tight bowling spells from Pitts & Holder .Ledden ( 25) and skipper Richie (81) began the chase, Ritchie’s innings was the most dangerous including 6 sixes. Rottingdeans other batsman failed to support Richie , Andy Smith taking out the middle order batsman with a spell of 4 for 30 . Pitts returned at the end to bowl the last 2 batsmen with just 8 balls of the match remaining .

Ringmer 2nd XI 188 for 6 drew with Newick 2nd XI 132 for 7
Newick won the toss and asked Ringmer to bat .No one made a big score but Jake Everitt 35 Ray Russell 34 and Pete Crees 33 not out, all chipped in with Ringmer finishing on 188 at tea .
Newick never got going. A fine spell of off spin from all rounder Jake Everitt 18 overs 4 for 62 tied Newick down and the game petered out into a Draw .

Ringmer 3rd XI 240 for 6 lost to Rotherfield 244 for 6
Ringmers sporting declaration proved to be their downfall . Having posted 240 Chris Knight 105 not out Dave Grimes 92 Ringmer declared after just 40 overs . Rotherfield made the most of the extra overs after tea P Hartland 106 , R Arnold 49 & A Hays 30 chased down Ringmers score .
